Fashion Heroes: Giambatista Valli
With his finely tailored gowns and coats with draped panels, Giambattista Valli has been hailed as the Valentino of our time. If Yves Saint Laurent’s clothes have been called “love letters to women", Valli's frothy frocks are akin to charming friends for free-spirited women.
The Italian-born French fashion designer has been the darling of international socialites and Hollywood starlets ever since he launched his first collection in 2005. Fans of his immaculate designs include Victoria Beckham, Halle Berry and Queen Rania of Jordan, many of whom have been spotted wearing his ’60s-influenced minidresses, feathery-textured gowns and clean-lined suits.
His couture gowns have received rave reviews from critics and fashion insiders alike. This week, Valli once again made news headline - this time, courtesy of Girls' creator and star Lena Dunham, who wore his fall couture ensemble to the Emmy's. Whether or not one likes the tiered pink ombre and white shirt ensemble, it is clear that Giambattista Valli is still relevant and very much sought-after.
n Singapore, the recent Star Awards, MediaCorp's version of the Golden Globes, also saw one of Valli's couture gown on one of the nation's most popular actresses. Singaporean actress Rebecca Lim attended the 2014 Star Awards was dressed in a metallic floral embroidered gown with a lace peplum skirt from the Giambattista Valli Spring 2014 Haute Couture collection.
