Style Spotlight : Climbing The Style Stakes

As the late Marilyn Monroe once proclaimed: "Give a girl the right pair of heels, and she can conquer the world". And this season, the right pair of heels are most definitely not for the faint of hearts.

From Dior’s thick see-through heeled marble boots to the gothic feel of the Alexander Wang designs, stepping out in style is the only way to go. And while diamonds are a girl's best friend, statement "must-have" heels come in at a close second.

At Proenza Schouler, for instance, designer-duo Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez offered a rather interesting peep-toe style that looks like wrapped fabric tied at the back of the ankle. The heels, on the other hand, look like thick copper cylinders.

For fall, designer labels such as Salvatore Ferragamo, Tod's and Dries van Noten are adding high shine to their structural heels. These pieces are a cross between shoes for Greek goddesses and those perfect for some boogie nights at the disco ball. Our tip for going full metal on your feet: Keep the rest of your outfit clean and simple, especially if you're more of a fashion wallflower. Alternatively, let your feet announce your arrival by pairing some of these statement heels with printed pants or skirt and a solid coloured top.

As the saying used to go: Business in the front, party at back. Ok, they were talking about the mullet haircut, but this season, we're loving how the shoes are giving us party vibes on the heels. From chunky heels to architectural blocks, the shoes are works of art that will get people talking as you leave the room. We're sure of it.

Christian Lacroix footwear has always been a great way to emphasise an outfit. Lacroix pieces are now collectables because the house of Lacroix has since closed down and pieces are no longer being made. These pointed slip on shoes are a work of art created in the 1980's that are crafted in a red satin with stunning embroidery work in black that Lacroix is famous for. Also features a tassel design in navy.

This is definitely a statement piece. The cut out heel is made from concrete and is a great talking point for shoe-lovers. What we love is how simple and chic the design is - it looks like any ordinary pair of strappy sandals - but the heels, of course, are architectural and a statement in itself.

These Miu Miu square toed pumps from the Fall/Winter 2010 collection gives a modern twist to the classic pump with its metallic front tip and bow detail. With the additional floral detail, the shoes are given a new silhouette and aesthetic.
