Looking Good: Good Hair Days

Few things you need to know about my hair: I have super, super curly but fine hair. In a temperate climate, I can easily do a straight blowout myself in less than 20 minutes, but in Singapore, with the level of humidity, it is just impossible and all my hard work will only last for a few hours.

So, I stopped straightening my hair years ago and decided to learn how to take care of my cork screw fine hair under such a climate. All went well for the first few years (even though that meant having to use different products and getting them from abroad). But, when my daughter was born, my hair decided to change its texture and became even harder to manage - I’m talking about one hour in the shower to simply detangle them. So, I decided to take a leap of faith and had a keratin treatment.

As much as I love the fact that I can finally do a wash and go "yes!", just like in any shampoo advertising, I don’t like that I lose some volume in my hair and that, after the treatment, my hair becomes super straight. Plus, in between treatments, I have to deal with what I deem my worst nightmare - tiny frizzy hair! Sure, as some of you are going to tell me, I can easily get rid of those pesky little hairs with a round brush and a powerful hair dryer, but it's too much of a hassle. While I know how to do it properly, and I've done it many times before, I just prefer to have a bit of a snooze for just a few minutes more.

Because of this, so started my journey to find the ultimate hair care product that will help me with my woes. Little did i realise that what I was actually looking for was a styling tool. So, when our friends at Prep Luxe invited us to discover the newest range of styling tool from GHD (to be more precise, the GHD eclipse, which is a styler and not a flatiron), I got very excited. Now, let's be clear that I am not a big fan of ironing my hair over and over again because any heat-inducing tool is always tricky for my hair because of how fine they are. Which is why the GHD Eclipse Styler is a life-saver for me.

On first look, I really like the ergonomic and the lightness of the styling tool. This meant that it will be easier to use when you are doing your own styling at home. I mean, just picture yourself doing the hair at the back of your head and you instantly know what I mean. Furthermore, the GHD trainer Robert Resnik explained to us that the temperature is evenly distributed throughout the styler and kept at 185 degree at all time. The external coating also made it easier to handle as there is no risk of burning yourself. What's great about the styler is that it automatically switches off after 30-minutes of non-use.

During the live demonstration, I was taught how to use the GHD Eclipse and I was sold. With this tool, you can straighten and curl your hair and even create some volume at the roots. I mean, what else do you want? I immediately purchased one and have been using it ever since. I can simply say that I love it! Otherwise, I would not even be talking about it.

Here a few reasons why:

1) I only have to wash and dry my hair before straightening it with the styler. So, bye-bye round brush in some odd positions just to get the perfect blow out on you own. And lets not forget the heat of being under the hairdryer just after your cooling shower - no more of that!

2) The GHD Eclipse styler is light and super ergonomic that after a few uses, it feels like an extension of your hand which makes it very intuitive to use even for a beginner like me.

3) Being small means that I can take it with me when I travel instead of resigning myself to leave the bulky superpower hairdryer at home knowing that I will have bad hair day during the trip.

4) No more dull straight hair! You can give volume to the roots of your hair, thanks to the styler and you can also shape the tip of your hair to make it seem like you've just stepped out of a very expensive salon session.

5) And last but not least, because I do miss my curls at times, I can set my hair to look wavy or try out different styles by curling my hair with the styler. I am still mastering the hand movement on this but thanks to tons of videos on YouTube, I am sure that I will be able to create more styles in no time. If worse comes to worst, I'll have yet another excuse to visit Prep. Luxe.
And before I go, just a gentle reminder to always dry your hair perfectly before you use any hot tool and use a heat protectant so you don’t damage your hair.
