5 podcasts to have on repeat
We’re sharing some of our favourite podcast shows for you to listen to!
For years now, I have personally been enjoying listening to podcasts, and I am really happy to see that the medium is gaining lots of momentum these days. Listening to a podcast episode is part my morning routine as I get ready, as well as to accompany me on my commute. Here is a list of the 5 podcast shows that I have on rotation when I am not listening to true crimes ones.
Pivot
Hosted by Kara Swisher and Scott Gallaway, this is a twice-a-week podcast that I never miss. I love the duo and their sense of humour and, yes, I literally do LOL while getting ready in the morning. While the podcast focuses on technology and startup businesses, it is not just that. I love the fact that it mixes business in general as well as politics and social issues. They also invite great guests once a week and they do not hesitate to invite people from different walks of life. This is one podcast I never miss
Business Wars
Being a brand buff, this one feels like it was made and recorded for me. Business wars focuses on looking at two businesses and pitting them against one another. Basically, an episode could be looking at Estee Lauder vs L’Oréal, Hasbro vs Mattel, Denim Wars, Fedex vs UPS and many more. The story telling is impeccable and it feels like you are learning more about the brands you already know, and also discovering new brands from within. Each episode is about 20 minutes,. which makes it ideal for when I get ready in the morning. I highly recommend it.
How’s Work? by Esther Perel
Esther Perel really does not need any introduction but in case you have been hiding under a rock, she is the acclaimed psychologist behind one of the most viewed Ted Talks - Rethinking infidelity. In How’s Work? Esther Perel shares stories from her sessions with some of her patients - focusing on work. What I love about Esther Perel is how she is just amazing at not only asking the right questions, but also at analysing the issues. She is direct and absolutely no BS. I have been enjoying each episode and I have to admit that I discover alot about work relationships thanks to this podcast. It especially resonates with me as I am running a small team with my life partner and I definitely understand certain dynamics within the workspace better.
In The Vitrine
This one is for the fashion lovers. A Singapore-based fashion podcast that’s helmed by two academics who not only talk the talk, but also walk. Dr Nadya Wang and Daniela Monasterios-Tan are both fashion researchers who teach fashion at LASALLE College of the Arts (Singapore), and they share their vast knowledge and experience in each episode of In The Vitrine to make the topics (mostly based on current events and happenings) they discuss very relatable and easily understood even to those who don’t really know fashion very well. I also love that each episode is very concise at about 20 to 30 minutes. Also, if you’re more of a visual person as you listen to the podcast, you can also watch it on their Instagram page.
Morning Meeting
I am a reader of Air Mail, a mobile-first digital weekly, and this is their podcast hosted by Ashley Baker and Michael Hainey. It feels very New York and as if you are having a coffee with the host, while they highlight some of the stories that were curated and published on Air Mail. If you are not familiar with Air Mail is a digital weekly newsletter launched in July 2019 by former Vanity Fair editor-in-chief Graydon Carter and former New York Times reporter Alessandra Stanley. In the podcast, the hosts cover only a handful of topics per week but always more in-depth or from a different angle. They basically run all the Vanity fair profile style story that we all love so much.
