How-to: Style your blazers
Because blazers are not just for the office
Blazers may have started as one-half of the work-ready suit, but they have become a layering option that can be styled in so many ways other than to the office. Whether it’s tossing a neutral blazer over a white top and vintage jeans for a Parisian-inspired look or pairing a floral iteration with a dress for a cute date night look, there's a style option for everyone and for every occasion.
Check out below for three looks you can try now.
Blazer over sweater
One of my favourite looks, especially when looking through street style photos, is the blazer-over-sweatshirts or hoodie look. These pieces can be too casual for certain settings but the right blazer (and accessories) can elevate the entire look. The trick is to choose a blazer in a classic cut and colour, which will pull everything together. As the blazer is boxy in its silhouette, you can choose to cinch it with a belt to accentuate your curves.
How we’d wear it
Blazers may appear to be a stiff look to some. But we say work a double-breasted one in classic camel and pair it wide-legged pants for modern menswear-inspired look that's still quite feminine. Slip into a pair of sneaker for a modern twist.
2. Blazer and denims
Combining your jeans with a more formal blazer can give your outfit an immediate lift as well as being a modern way to wear your blazer. This is the what we call a “fail-safe” outfit formula that we swear by and with very good reason. Fit is everything when it comes to this combination. While the trend these days is leaning towards oversized pieces, fit is very important. Generally, you will want to ensure you get the perfect fit on your shoulders and across your bust. You want to look on-trend, not sloppy.
Wearing a blazer along with your denim is also about balance. For instance, if you choose a blazer with a more relaxed fit, this is likely to look better with slimmer jeans. Or, you opt for a more fitted blazer, go with a wider-legged pair of jeans.
How we’d wear it
A neutral blazer and a pair of blue jeans is always a winning combi. If the sleeves are slightly big for your arms, just push them up casually, then slip into a pair of chic heels for that laid-back cool-girl vibe
3. Blazer with maxi skirts
Wearing a blazer and a maxi skirt is a good combination to carry you throughout the day. Depending on how you style your outfit, it can be a relaxed casual combination that is super easy to pull together without a second thought. For something more on the classy side to complement your getup, complement your ensemble with a pair of sleek shoes.
Date night dressing should always be fun. We'd go with this jacquard blazer thrown over a sexy silk camisole, paired with a layered maxi skirt. The look is decidedly fresh and feminine at the same.
