When I am not in the office, I can be found at home.

And when I am not organising our gigantic walking closet in the office, I actually enjoy decorating our home to the point where my daughter imitates me by moving things around the house and taking a step back to see if it works better. 

Needless to say that with my day job, I get lots of my inspiration for my decor from fashion. So I thought why not share some of my ideas with you. 

What I love the most about these ideas is that you don’t need to break the bank to make your home more cozy or pinterest worthy.

MAGAZINE, BOOKS, CANDLES ARE DECORATION

I read alot. And I do keep magazines and books around the house. Some of those books, I call my reference books, so I keep them in the living room where I can easily gain access to them. But, in order to make them work with my decor, I use them as decorations on my coffee table.

To make them work, just group them neatly, or place them in a tray (makes it easier to remove them when you need your coffee table for, well, coffee). Add a candle and you are done. It gives that instant lift to the simplest coffee table and it makes it pleasant to the eye. Plus, it makes it easier to flip through those books as often as you see fit. 

When it comes to magazines, I love to keep some of them. Don’t ask me why. Probably because of the exorbitant price I pay for it in this part of the world, and so I keep them when I am done clipping the images for inspiration. As a result, I also incorporate them into the decor by creating side tables with them - the one you are not afraid of staining with your drinks. So, pile them up, add a leather sling and voila, side table done. You could do this by starting to collect the Vogue September issue, for instance. 

THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX

Let’s say you've splurged on an expensive pair of shoes for your wedding or you've purchased a pair that is more like a piece of art than a walkable piece, well then make it a part of your vanity, or closet decor by placing them on a tray or under a glass dome. It’s personal and it will make you smile every time you look at them. This is as opposed to cringing at the price you paid for knowing that you have used them only once. 

I love packaging, if I could keep all the cool boxes that certain brand made, I will but I guess at this point we will call it hoarding and not decorating. Hence, I do re-use some of them in my home, mostly in my study and on my vanity. Not only do I use them to keep all my stationery and accessories neat and in place but it always reminds me of the time I purchased the piece it came with - double happiness effect, I say. Also, let’s not forget that you are recycling in the process. 

One more thing I love to do is I love to shop for scarves as I think it is the most under-used accessories despite being the most versatile. Therefore, I am always hunting for new ones and once in a while, I find some vintage ones that have gorgeous design but unfortunately come with a stain. These pieces will be transformed into pillowcases or I simply frame them as piece of art.
 
Last but not least, something that I have been doing for a while now is that I often shop for vintage suitcases or trunk when I am at flea markets. I always try to find ways to incorporate them into our home - from entrance stand, to night table to even storage for toys. This is the easiest way of adding character and storage to your home.
