Take Five: Book It

We love a good read when we are on vacation, here are some recommendations for your next getaway.

1. Fashion Magazines

Weekends and traveling are the perfect moment for reading magazines.
I always make sure I purchase some before a flight or that my iPad is fully loaded with some.
After a brainstorming session, here are the ones THE FIFTH COLLECTION team loves - Porter, Elle UK, Vogue UK, Harpers Bazaar Singapore.
What’s you favourite read?

2. The Fault in Our Stars - John Green

“Without pain, how could we know joy?' This is an old argument in the field of thinking about suffering and its stupidity and lack of sophistication could be plumbed for centuries but suffice it to say that the existence of broccoli does not, in any way, affect the taste of chocolate.”
― John Green, The Fault in Our Stars

We start off joining Hazel Grace Lancaster at the cancer support group that she was coerced into attending by her well-meaning mother. At the support group, you’ll meet the charming and contradicting Augustus Waters. The Fault in Our Stars doesn’t pretend that it is one of your typical teen romances. There is no teary eyed reunion at the airport, nor is there a prom scene. Make no mistake, John Green’s spell-binding storytelling would not leave you with dry eyes. But this is not a teenage love story, this is a tale about love, hope, and acceptance. We do not recommend reading this in a public place unless you want to be caught bawling your eyes out on the train.

3. Bringing Home The Birkin - Michael Tonello

I read this book years before I started hunting down coveted fashion items for a living! It’s an easy and thoroughly enjoyable read that gives great insights into the psychology of sellers - whether Hermes itself or a reseller, and their celebrity or bag-loving buyers. This book has the whole Birkin ecosystem!

Years later, the Birkin is as much the ‘it' bag as it ever was, and they continue to fetch sky high prices, whether through resellers or at auction. This book is for anyone curious to understand more about this enigmatic object of desire.

In fact, as I write about it, I’ve decide to pick it up again and see if there’s any new insights I can take away from it.
