Spending our weekends snuggled up in front of the TV is seriously our weekend goals these days. And the best part is that there is a host of new shows to watch and/or to catch up on. 

In this issue of page five, we list five of our five must-see TV shows that will make you not want to leave your home. I mean, fighting the soaring temperatures outside or staying indoors, aircon switched on, and whiling the day away watching TV? No prizes for guessing which one we're picking!

1. NARCOS

Interweaving drama with real life archival footage, Narcos unravels the true-life story of the growth and spread of cocaine drug cartels across the globe and attendant efforts of law enforcement to meet them head on in brutal, bloody conflict whilst centering around notorious Colombian cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar and DEA agent Steve Murphy, who is sent to Colombia on a U.S mission to capture and ultimately kill him. 

This is Narcos' second season and we've been hooked on the extravagant lifestyle as well as the fast-pace crime drama since season one. Wagner Moura's portrayal of Pablo Escobar is so good, we found ourselves strangely drawn to the character. 

2. STRANGER THINGS

A love letter to the supernatural classics of the 80's, Stranger Things is the story of a young boy who vanishes into thin air. As friends, family and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl.

3. THE GET DOWN

Baz Luhrmann is known for his spectacular movies such as Moulin Rouge, The Great Gatsby and Romeo + Juliet. For TV, the Australian film director does not disappoint (ok, sort of). Netflix's The Get Down is a musical drama television series set in the South Bronx in the late 1970s. The show chronicles the rise of hip-hop and the downfall of disco in a smoldering, chaotic New York. 
Some might find that the show is a mess - in fact, many reviews have stated that, too. But for all the flaws, this show is one of those that will be a "cult classic", in that you'll watch it because of the drama and the somewhat real-life take of NYC in the 70s. It is, as The Guardian once said, an extravagant love letter to the 1970s era. 

What we love: The snappy dialogue and the catchy music! It's like Glee, but slightly more legit. 

4. LUKE CAGE

Set in the Marvel cinematic universe, Luke Cage tells the story of Carl Lucas, a former gang member who is framed for a crime by his friend turned archenemy, Willy Stryker. After volunteering for a medical experiment in prison that goes awry, he gains super strength and bulletproof skin. With his new found powers he escapes prison and becomes a hero for hire under the alias, Luke Cage. 

5. DIVORCE

Can Sarah Jessica Parker move away from the one character portrayal that has defined her career and brought her to supernova star status? Maybe. 

HBO's Divorce tells the tale of Frances, played by Parker, who is suddenly reevaluating her life after more than 10 years of marriage and raising two kids. She has an affair and asked for a divorce from her husband, Robert. But after getting dumped by her "boyfriend" (who freaked out after learning that she was leaving her husband from him), Frances tried to take everything back, only to have her secret affair being discovered by Robert. 

The show is currently on episode 2 and so far, it's looking good. However, we're still not sure if Parker can shake off her Carrie Bradshaw past. Maybe its in the speech pattern, or the slightly neurotic-ness of Frances' character, but there were moments while watching the show when we were expecting a voiceover to be heard and a laptop screen to appear typing out the words spoken.
