Night Time Beauty Routine

We all know the importance of taking care of our skin. Whether it's moisturising or applying our weekly facial masks, everyone of us has our own routine specific to our needs. Having a good night routine is essential in ensuring the our skin stays well-hydrated and remain supple and youthful. Afterall, for many of us in Singapore, we can't go to bed without the aircon blasting. While the air con does provide us with relief from the humidity and heat (yes, even at night), many know that having the air con switched on throughout the night can be damaging to the skin.

This week, we share our go-to night routine to ensure that we wake up with glowing complexion. #IWokeUpLikeThis

ANGIE CHEN, The Curator

What I use: Biologique Recherche P50W, Glam Glow Supermud Clearing Treatment, Hylamide SubQ AntiAge serum, The Ordinary Niacinamide Zinc 10 Serum,  The Ordinary Rosehip Seed Oil, Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Facial Oil, Chanel La Solution 10

Why I love them: This regimen gets my face squeaky clean and at the same time hydrates and moisturises thoroughly which is important to me because I sleep in arctic cold air conditioning. My problem areas are usually t-zone oiliness, enlarged pores, occasional slight redness and dryness. So, I need to have a regimen that targets all these issues and yet give me a glow beyond belief. If you are like me and  refuse to wear face makeup (no highlighter glow here), this regiment may be the one for you!

How I use it: Depending on my needs, I usually start off with a a deep cleanse that will get rid of all impurities and all the additional gunky stuff that was not removed by normal cleansing. I use the Glam Glow Supermud Clearing Treatment for this because I love the way it just seems to pulls all the grime to the surface and leaves my skin feeling super smooth and brightened. After this I use the cult favourite beauty product P50W, a potion that exfoliates, hydrates and rebalances the skin’s PH level. The version I use is a much lighter version of the classic P50 which I find much gentler on the skin so it’s perfect if you have slightly sensitive skin like me and prone to redness. I believe this is the one product that is giving me that soft dewy gentle glow the next morning.

The next step is my serums. I’m not a loyalist when it comes to serums so I tend to switch brands and types pretty often to cater to my skin needs. However, the ones on my dressing table now are from The Abnormal Beauty Company brand with two of their sub lines The Ordinary and Hylamide. The SubQ AntiAge serum is THE hylarounic acid serum with 5 types of of hyaluronic acids in it to give you that extra elasticity, plumpness and bounce in your skin. The Ordindary’s Niacinamide Zinc 10 helps me with blemish and pore problems attributed to oily skin. I like to use this more as a spot treatment so I usually apply this on my T-zone and and the sides nearest to my nose where most problems occur.

After this, I seal everything in with either a face oil or a moisturiser on alternate days. I used to hate using oils but after discovering lightweight formulas like the The Ordinary Rosehip Seed Oil (a total steal) and the Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Facial Oil (Splurge!), I started to love indulging my skin, especially at the cheekbone areas where it can get a little drier. On days I don’t use oils I use a moisturiser or deep hydration mask. It may sound like a tedious nighttime ritual but i love unwilling down my day with treating my skin and myself to a good perk me up.

NEJLA MATAM-FINN, Editor-in-Chief

What I use: Muji Cleansing Oil, Ren Rose Centifola Gel Cleanser, Joelle Ciocco Lotion Lactée , Vanderohe Number 1 Serum, Ren Revitalising Night Cream

Why I love them: I like my night routine to be simple as well as efficient and those products have proven to do just that. On nights where I have more time or, let’s say, energy, I will switch my serum and night cream to a more heavy night mask such as the Laneige one or I simply add a thick layer of Weleda skin food cream before I jump into bed. The thing that I always do is that I double cleanse, even if I have not been wearing makeup and that I spritz my face with mineral water before applying my serum and creams.

How I use them: For me its pretty straight forward, first cleanse with the oil then the gel cleanser, spray some mineral water after I washed off tap dry. Then, I apply a cotton of Joelle Ciocco lotion as I brush my teeth - I want the lotion to stick in. Finally, I mix my serum with my night cream. I use to have a more elaborate night routine but felt that at that time of the day I am way to lazy to follow through with it. Hence, I simplified and I am now happy to say that I stick to it.

ROHAI, The Scribe

What I Use: Daily Facial Cleanser by Cetaphil, Double Cleanse by Pixi, Glow Tonic by Pixi, The Supers by Glossier, Fresh and More Cream, as well as Sleep Mask Good Night, both from Huxley Skincare.

Why I love them: Fuss-free products that, for me, perform and do what they promise. This regimen gives me the ultra-clean feeling on the skin (almost squeaky-clean) and clears my pores of skin impurities built up over the course of the day. My problem areas are my temples (for some reason, I always get a pimple there?) and an oily T-zone. In general, I have combination skin. So, this regimen really helps in treating these areas. I also don't wear make-up anymore., and a major reason why I no longer feel the need to contour and highlight my face very lightly) is due to the fact that I've started on this regimen. So, really, my skin looks and feels great. If the situation calls for me to be a bit more made up, I only apply BB cream.

How I use them: Ok, I don't wear make-up (I used to). So, at times, I feel like my Cetaphil Daily Facial cleanser does the job. This is especially so after I've had a very long day at work. However, I know that this alone is not enough. I try to leave the Cetaphil cleanser for mornings and try to put in abit more effort at night. After all, sleeping in sub-zero degrees (my air con is always at the coldest) can do my skin alot of harm. Anyway, when I have the energy (which I try to will myself to have four times a week), I double cleanse my face with the Double Clenase product from Pixi London. This is an amazing product, if i say so myself. For one, my skin oftem feels super squeaky clean after the process BUT it does not feel taut or too tight - you know how sometimes you feel like your skin is super tight after scrubbing? Yeah, this one gives you the cleanse without you feeling like your skin is about to tear if you smile too wide.

Then, I usually apply my serums. The Supers pack from Glossier is great. The three serums - one to spot-treat, one to give your skin the bounce and suppleness, and the other to give you the #IWokeUpLikeThis glow - both work great individually but you can mix and match them depending on what your skin needs are that night. You can also read my review on Glossier's The Supers here.

Sometimes, I skip Glossier's Super Glow serum for the Glow Tonic by Pixi London. This toner gives me that fresh feeling and seeps into my skin to give that slight glow from the inside. I love using this tonic in the mornings as well - right before the moisturiser.

On days when I feel that my skin needs extra loving, I usually slap on a thick layer of the Sleep Mask Good Night by Huxley Skincare. This Korean skincare product is a God-send, in my opinion. It absorbs into your skin rather quickly and you can sleep with it on without worrying that it'll stain your sheets. When I wake up, my skin feels soft and smooth, which is really what I want. Plus, the glow tonic or glow serum gives that extra boost for your skin to have that natural glow throughout the day. Trust me, you skin won't look dull and/or tired. This one works in place of my Cream Fresh and More moisturiser (which is also from Huxley skincare).
