5 easy changes you can do to achieve a greener bathroom

Changing to an eco-friendly lifestyle starts right in the bathroom.

Achieving a total green routine in all aspect of your life can be pretty daunting. But just like everything else in life, it is not about reaching perfection, it is about doing your part.

When I am not doing fashion I am all about beauty. I even dedicate my Sundays to catching up on all the beauty regimen that I have missed during the week. As a result, I am a confessed beauty junky that loves nothing more than to shop for new beauty products. This means that not only do I have an overflowing stash stored in my rather tiny bathroom, I also end up feeling guilty about those beautiful packaging that will end up, at best, in an incinerator. I then decided that I had to find the right balance between indulging on my cosmetic while being kinder to the environment.

Apart from limiting my purchases to the strict minimum and, of course, trying to find the “greener” options… Here are 5 main changes that are not only easy to make but helped me save $$$ that I could put to better use.

The easiest change that we can all make is to change your toothbrush to a bamboo one. Not only it is a super affordable choice but such an easy one to make as they are now widely available. If you need an extra reason to do so, think about the fact that there is a big chance that all of the plastic toothbrush you have used in your lifetime is still in existence somewhere out there. Same goes with flossing - this little change can save countless marine species. Bonus point for the vintage looking container that will sit nicely on your vanity.

I rarely wear makeup. However, I love using a toner. And that means using cotton pads. The next change that I made was to switch to washable facial pads. I made sure I purchase a few in order to never be stuck when some are in the wash. I purchased some black ones thinking that for those rare days with mascara, I didn’t want to see any traces of it on my washable facial pads even after coming fresh from the laundry.

2020 is the year of the soap! I am sure that you have purchased your fair share of soaps, so why not make the change to bar soap? You will not only save lots of plastic bottles but you will get to dive in the world of some serious luxury soaps at soft prices. Extra tip: if you are using washable face mask, it is a great way of gently scenting them by washing them with a luxurious bar soap.

If body scrub is your thing and you got into the habit of buying tubs of body scrubs that come in super nice packaging which will unfortunately end up in the landfill, I will highly recommend switching to a dry brush. You will not only be kind to the planet but your skin and your blood circulation will thank you for it.
